Denim, lace & everything in between Crystal Couture Announces 2-Week Fashion Event
Schedule
Crystal City (Arlington, VA) – The Crystal City Business Improvement District (BID) today unveiled
a diverse and lively event schedule for Crystal Couture, a fortnight of fun and fashion in the heart of Crystal City February
13-28.
The BID is partnering with fashion maven Katherine Glorioso of Gossip on 23rd, Lowe Enterprises Real Estate
Group, and DC Modern Luxury to stage two style-filled weeks of sample sales, runway and trunk shows from designers, local
boutiques, and area salons.
Crystal Couture: Fashion in Crystal
City from Feb. 13 – 28 As part of their two-week, fashion extravaganza called Crystal Couture, the Crystal City BID will
be hosting tailored fashion events highlighting the latest trends in fitness, bridal, maternity and children’s fashion,
and more featured at stores throughout Arlington.
The BID is collaborating with fashion maven Katherine Glorioso
of Gossip on 23rd, Lowe Enterprises Real Estate Group, and DC Magazine to stage two style-filled weeks of sample sales, runway
and trunk shows from designers, local boutiques, and area salons. All events, including the opening and closing fetes, are
free, open to the public, and held in newly developed retail space at the corner of 23rd Street and Crystal Drive.
In an effort to appeal to a broad audience, the fashion showcase has defined daily themes,
activities and events. Every day brings a different theme to Crystal Couture, and attendees are encouraged to dress for the
day’s theme, compete for prizes, sample themed food, drinks and fun, and donate new or gently used clothing and footwear
to a worthy cause. For the complete Crystal Couture event listing, visit www.crystalcity.org or visit the Crystal Couture page
on Facebook for regular updates about events.
Crystal City Dazzles
With Style! Written by Jamie March 15, 2009
From February 13-28, Crystal Couture illuminated the Link at the Century Center and was never the same fashionable (and
charitable) place twice! Whether you were a “First Lady of Fashion“ or a “Metro Man,” there were sample
sales and trunk shows for every taste! And speaking of taste, attendees munched on yummy snacks from Velvet Cupcake (loved
the “Work Wear Wednesday” Espresso cupcake!), Crystal City Sports Pub, Café Pizzaiolo, and sipped on liquid treats like Lemonheads, Peach Cosmos, and organic beer (it’s all about balance!). All
of this nourishment kept us energized for the rocking runway shows, MC’d by Angie Fox, President/CEO of the Crystal
City Business Improvement District (BID) and produced by Luciana Preguerman, Yo Soy designer and co-owner of Dekka. Shows featured models strutting down the runway in some very sexy lingerie from Dascha Boudoir Boutique and clothing from Aidah, Caramel, and Crystal City boutique, Gossip on 23rd, owned by Katherine Glorioso, who partnered with Crystal BID to organize the festivities. But as we all know, fashion can
be quite exhausting, so when it came time to relax between shows, we enjoyed getting our hair done by Cuts and Cocktails,
and skin consultations by Nahid Spa and Salon. In addition to taking care of one’s outer beauty, Crystal Couture made sure to enrich the spirit by highlighting wonderful
charities on each day like Pajama Program, Suited for Change, Goodwill, and encouraged attendees to donate gently used running shoes, clothing, and accessories. Other highlights of Crystal
Couture included “T-Shirt Tuesday”, which featured Art Whino, who will be teaming up with Crystal City BID again on April 18th for the “Inked Souls” Exhibition. Of course,
if you can’t wait until April, then don’t miss the Junior League of Washington’s “17th Annual Tossed
& Found Rummage Sale" from March 27-29 at 2100 Crystal Drive, which will support the DC area’s local charities.
Be sure to get all the details on these events at Greg’s List-DC! Much applause to Angie Fox, Katherine Glorioso, and
the Crystal Couture team and partners for all of their hard work and enthusiasm in putting together a most luminous event!

With a name like Katherine Glorioso you
just can’t go through life as a mortgage compliance director. So when the housing industry shifted and Katherine
got laid off, a truly glorious thing happened.
Katherine always had a passion for fashion. She loved dressing in the latest from head to toe and everywhere in between. Katherine had a bee in her bonnet about
how to make a living doing something more flashy and not just cashy. Her instinct buzzed her straight to the fashion district
in Los Angeles Virginia Tax ID in hand, she sought the
counsel of a trusted friend, Leah Jung, with her own successful boutique on Melrose called Gossip. As
Katherine devised a plan to bring home carefully picked garments to test drive on a trunk show basis, she couldn’t shake
a gut feeling. If her hunch was right, she would quickly need a space to call home and it just had to be called Gossip.
In a selfless act to true friendship, Katherine and her friend reached a remarkable agreement to share the name of her dream
business.
Katherine quickly mastered the art of trunk shows and found a temporary home at Eastern Market, DC’s
beloved Saturday morning tradition. Trouble was Katherine’s wares were always sold out by midmorning. What
a great problem!
With the help of her extra special father Giovanni, who happens to be a real estate broker, Katherine
set out to find a storefront. While Georgetown was her first choice, she quickly realized the overhead
would kill her mission to only offer garments and accessories under $100. Lucky for Crystal City, Katherine
and her father happened across a small but doable space on what she calls “the coolest, quirkiest block,” where
not only was the price right but the karma good. Katherine remembered the block fondly from early
internship days working down the street in Crystal City, vowing to return the moment she was legal to drink up and live large. As of November 2007, Katherine was still drinkin' the Crystal
Kool-Aid, and Gossip on 23rd is meeting its mission of providing hip fashion at great prices. From funky t-shirts to
knockout dresses, Katherine scours for quality merch from lesser known names carrying prices you can’t really believe
until you see them.
I popped in on an early Spring Friday afternoon, and let’s just say I was grateful for
her two dedicated parking spots in back or my car might have been booted. Not only did I fall in love
with a sexy backless dress in (gasp!) my nemesis color purple but also a hippy chick t-shirt perfect for amping up my tired
Target yoga collection.
I quickly made friends with a twenty something girl looking to stretch not only a gift
certificate but her work and play wardrobes. Katherine and I tag teamed to set her up with a terrific
multi-purpose black dress accentuating her best features and showed her three ways to accessorize using hot, trendy colors.
By adding a classic but update red belt and an easy but pretty jacket, Katie walked out with three
looks for about $100. Her smile was priceless.
Katherine is most excited about debuting her own
collection, Glorioso, this coming Fall. Focusing on dresses, Katherine wants to translate a timeless chic vibe for clients
who know a good deal when they see it.
